Dear Yuletide 2024
Oct. 17th, 2024 12:34 pmHello Yuletide writer! I have now finalized this letter and I'm so sorry about the delay. Thank you for reaching via the mods and reminding me to finish it.
First of all, my prompts are for your convenience above everything. If you have a much better idea, or something about it spoke to you but you'd rather tell another kind of story, or even if the story isn't coming together and you need to burn it to the ground and write something different, please feel free to abandon them as necessary! As long as you're not including any of my DNWs and you're making a good faith attempt at telling a story you think I'll enjoy, I'll have a good time.
Also, if you matched with me on Tokyo Babylon, Natsume Yuujinchou, or the Lady Trent Memoirs, I highly recommend reading Darling and the Cinderella Club. It's on AO3, it's relatively short, and it's such a fucking delight. A good backup if you're not feeling my other prompts, but also just in general a story worth reading.
Generals DNWs:
character-bashing, even the really evil guys. pregnancy or discussion of the specifics of childbirth. omegaverse. neurotype/trans/ace headcanons (I don't mind it if informs your writing, but I would rather the focus of the story lie elsewhere unless otherwise specified). coffee shop, high school, or university stories, unless they're baked into the existing setting. If you're writing sex scenes: scat, piss, and sounding are off the table.
General interests:
AU, AU that functions as a character study, pornography that functions as a character study (or vice versa), tension and conflict, complicated endings, messy relationships, background worldbuilding, setting as a character/metaphor, interesting framing devices, experimental or otherwise artsy use of text/form, pretentious nonsense generally is my jam

Dear Yuletide
Oct. 21st, 2022 09:11 pmHello, kind writer! Thank you in advance for your efforts. I hope at least one of my prompts speaks to you. If they feel too vague, please reach out through the mods and I would be happy to come up with some more details, but I hope by leaving them more loose I'm giving you room to have fun with them. If you're feeling constricted, the details I included are mainly springboards, and I'm not married to them -- feel free to creatively reinterpret as you see fit.
I am open to treats (adding this late; it did not occur to me that I should specify), and while I would prefer to receive a story I am open to additional other media types. I have no objection to any length; I would be delighted to receive a really long story (especially for the third prompt) but am certainly not expecting it.
Also, if you matched on one of the first two prompts and are unfamiliar with the third canon, "oh Charlie Harper we love you get up" is a short story on AO3 by spit_kitten and it's an absolute delight. Please do yourself the favor of checking it out along with the other original works by the same author for a crash course in Things Anduefex Loves To See.
DNWs:
Alpha/beta/omega dynamics, pregnancy, unadulterated fluff, piss/scat, child acquisition, trans/ace/neurodivergent headcanons
These are fine though:
Period-typical homophobia where relevant, dark themes/unhappy endings, unlisted or original characters
Prompt 1: Nimona
I would love to see some fraught interactions that take place after Ballister became a villain but before the start of the comic. Comedy or drama, dealer's choice. Maybe they keep accidentally (or purposefully) ruining each other's attempts at dating. Maybe they get caught in inclement weather and have to huddle resentfully for warmth. Maybe some would-be villain starts targeting one or both of them. Maybe they just have a hard time letting things go at first. I just adore some bitter exes.
A note about period-typical homophobia: Nimona is kind of an extreme pastiche so I don't think there is really an identifiable period for it to be typical of. If your idea for a story includes dealing with homophobia, I'm all for it. I'm equally fine with that not being an issue. I'm here to see them suffer, but there are plenty of ways to make their lives miserable regardless of whether their relationship was socially acceptable or not.
Making their lives miserable is key though. Whether the tone of the story itself is lighthearted or heavier, I'd rather this not become an AU where they figure things out early. Unless you have them break up again afterward, in which case, hell yeah. In this house we love gay divorce. I don't object to skipping forward in time if you'd prefer to give them a happy ending, though.
Prompt 2: Imperial Radch Series
What does it mean for a ship to love their captain? What does it do to them to lose that? I'd love an exploration of that, whether featuring one of Sphene's captains before being stranded behind the Ghost Gate, or the fallout of Breq's attempt to matchmake. I would also be open to an exploration of other ship characters, either in addition to or instead of Sphene. OCs encouraged.
This is probably the most vague prompt, sorry about that. AI relationships with their creators and users are just fascinating to me and I like seeing other people's takes on them. There's something very romantic about the idea of a ship losing their captain and going feral about it, as the stories went. And there's the question of how intimacy is expressed physically when you're a ship with a rotating assortment of bodies to inhabit. I imagine it differs between ships. I also imagine there would be a disconnect between how a ship demonstrates intimacy and how a human does it. Do ships and humans have romantic relationships? Is it something different? Is there a conflict of opinion about it? Has anyone ever been as matter-of-factly overdramatic about this type of misunderstanding as Breq was in Ancillary Mercy?
Prompt 3: oh Charlie Harper we love you get up
Regency or otherwise period piece AU. American man receives estate from long-lost grandparent as last living heir, gets coached to enter society by unfairly attractive local? Arranged marriage complicated by hot new valet? Recovery from scandal not enough to dampen boner for first new society friend? Someone rides halfway across town in a downpour and take horribly ill? There are so many delicious possibilities. Bonus if you can contrive to have Charlie collapse in Mitchell's arms again.
I would desperately love to see Charlie get properly wrecked by Mitchell... I was going to say while he's awake, but hey, if you're into a spot of somnophilia then who am I to ruin your fun? If the AU is just window dressing for a sex scene that's also fine by me. Obviously if sex scenes aren't your bag then don't worry about it, I'm sure I will enjoy whatever you decide to write, but it would be extremely welcome.
If you're not a regency/historical AU kind of person, that's also absolutely fine, and I instead leave you with this line: "He doesn’t completely remember what was going on in his head this morning, only that it involved corsetry and he woke up dick-first..." Or I would love to see what happened when Mitchell actually took him home.
Also, this prompt is the exception to what I said about unhappy endings; I would prefer that they end up together and happy about it, regardless of what it takes to get them there.
